Wash hair twice let sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash a third time with a moisturizing shampoo. Then follow with a moisturizing conditioner, cover with a plastic cap, sit under dryer for 15 minutes. If you don’t have a hooded dryer heat a damp towel in the microwave for 5 minutes let steam escape and place over plastic cap until it cools. This process will allow conditioner to penetrate through the cuticles of the hair shaft. Rinse completely until water runs clear so hair and scalp does not accumulate build up blow dry and apply favorite hair cream or oil. Style as desired.
Many think natural hair is confined to an afro, twists, or dread locks and braids. The style one chooses is a preference. A good ‘ole press is an option that can be worn straight or curled. Just make sure to tie up with a satin or silk scarf or pillow case when sleeping. Moisture, moisture, and more moisture, grease and oil are our friend. It is recommended to grease the scalp 2-3 times a week the hair can be moisturized daily with oil sheen or a light hair dress cream to maintain shine and luster. Natural hair should be washed weekly or biweekly with a dandruff shampoo or a shampoo for natural hair. Before washing scratch up existing flakes with a comb (always sanitize combs brushes, scarves and pillow cases after hair is washed)
African American hair , when natural is dry ,brittle and depending on the texture can be extremely coarse. Our
scalp does not produce sebum (oil) which intern becomes dry, some more than others. In the winter months the scalp requires more attention. Dandruff may or may not be present or the scalp may be very itchy people have the perception that their hair is dirty which is not the case. Dandruff can appear in clean hair. It can be caused by medications, poor diet, sharing combs and brushes, allergic reactions or product build up. It is recommended to see a physician especially if excessive flaking builds up or blood is shed.
